Our Lessons

Individual Lessons

The interaction between a single teacher and a single student is at the core of the philosophy of music education. Each student’s experience begins with speaking to a member of our skilled registration staff to identify the needs of the student. Does the student respond best to a more structured teacher or one who is more flexible? Is the student interested in classical or contemporary? With each person, we take the time to match up teachers and students based not only on schedule, but also on learning styles and preferences. For that lesson, the individual student is the prime focus of the teacher. The teacher has the time and focus to work on the individual student’s strengths and weaknesses. Details are harder to miss in individual lessons and each student can learn at their own pace. Our unique approach to teaching music involves communication and goal setting through our program. Students, parents, and faculty meet at the beginning of each term to set goals. Our faculty members then design a program that meets the unique needs of each student-adapting to his or her challenge level, assessing technical strengths and weaknesses, and creating an atmosphere tailored to the student’s own learning style. Lessons are given once a week and documented 20 -30 minutes daily practice is expected. There’s a waiting area at Reception. All rooms are air conditioned. Thrive in a relaxed, encouraging and creative atmosphere where students learn at their pace. Performance opportunities include an annual Summer Galore Performance and Christmas Performance and other requested pre-scheduled performances.

Transfer of Lessons Hour

Please note that students under no circumstance are allowed to transfer their lesson hours to a third party. Our services deal with Abba Music School and ‘the Registered student’ only. The Registered student here refers to the student who registered when lessons commence.

Missed Lessons

Our lesson cancellation and make-up policy is designed to be fair to both teacher and student. If the instructor cancels a lesson or class, a make-up will be offered at a mutually convenient time. Cancellations by students due to illness, unavailability or force majeure may be made up under the following conditions:

  • No more than three make-ups are allowed per term.
  • Cancellations may be made no later than 2 hours before lessons
  • Cancellations of lessons must be made by calling the school at 08092083326 .
  • No credits for a make-up-lesson will be made unless you call and report the absence.
  • Calling the instructor at home to cancel a lesson is not sufficient nor acceptable notice.

Students should schedule a time for a make-up lesson directly with the Front Desk administrator

Group Lessons

Group classes at Abba Music School offer an exciting way for children to begin music study. With a focus on fundamentals, these classes present material to beginners in an enjoyable and supportive environment, helping students make an easy transition to private study. Group classes include offerings in keyboard, violin, guitar and voice. Our classes are small, no more than five students‚ allowing for lots of individual attention.

Parents often ask, “Should my child start with group or private lessons?” The answer to this question is different for every child. Some students prefer the customized approach of a teacher in a private lesson, but many young students thrive in a group setting, they enjoy the social aspect, group activities, and making music with others. Group participation means every student has to work hand-in-hand to achieve an excellent performance of a musical piece. This in turn can enhance teamwork and foster cooperation among team members.

Please note group lessons are not to take the place of private lessons. These classes are offered specifically to help students gain fundamentals that will make their transition to private lessons a more positive and confident experience.

We also hold classes for toddlers who register in our “We Play” program. This introduces infants/toddlers from the age of 1 – 2 to basic fundamentals of music. This class might require the involvement of a  parent/guardian/caregiver.

Tardiness

Students who are late for a lesson cannot be guaranteed their lesson time. Faculty will wait for a student for the first fifteen minutes of the scheduled lesson duration; students are asked to do the same. Any extension of that time from a student will be counted as a lesson held and the teacher will be free to attend to other things. Where a teacher is later than 15 minutes to the class, the student is free to leave and will schedule a make-up class at the front desk. The teacher will be penalized.
